The Truth About Lizards

This was a joy to do—a 4/C hybrid book of illustrations and photos. I had the freedom to play with color and shape as well as unusual images. The design process started with understanding how children visually navigate a page—striking wildlife photography as the primary focal point, complemented by colorful illustrations, playful typography, and multiple points of entry—such as sidebars, callouts, and fact boxes—to encourage exploration rather than presenting information as large blocks of text. I wanted the reader's eye to move naturally from the hero image, to the headline, and then to the supporting content. The final result was a book that presents its subject in a visually engaging and easy way for young readers to absorb. This was a satisfying project to work on.
