The Diary of a Young Girl

Anne Frank-Mockup-COVERVAULT.jpg

The brief: Come up with a fresh contemporary design for one of the most well-read and beloved books of the 20th Century. But be respectful of the gravity of the story. A fine line to walk.

In my research, I discovered pictures of children from Auschwitz—chilling mugshots of young children the Nazis were interning there. And I thought, this is what happened to Anne.

The aim was to keep the powerful message clear—the font simple, the grid system plain—let the pictures tell the grim reality of the story—and let Anne's words speak for themselves.
